High River RCMP find weapons, evidence of neglect at dog kennel

A Foothills County man is facing weapons and animal neglect charges after police were called to a dog kennel near High River.

A police search in September of Dawgfather Dog Kennel, north of High River, turned up weapons and evidence of animal neglect. The owner of the kennel is facing numerous charges.

A Foothills County man is facing weapons and animal neglect charges after police were called to a dog kennel near High River. 

On Sept. 3, High River RCMP were called to Dawgfather Dog Kennel. After seeing evidence of weapons in plain view, police arrested a male at the scene and got a search warrant for the property. 

The owner of the kennel, Justin Stenabaugh, 38, of Foothills County, has now been charged with the following offences: 

  • Possession of a restricted firearm at an unauthorized place 
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device (x4) 
  • Careless use of a prohibited device (x2) 
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm (x2) 
  • Animal neglect 

While searching the property, RCMP found animals not being suitably cared for. 

Stenabaugh was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on Nov. 1, 2024.
