Hiker killed in fall while climbing Mount Temple

A man was killed after he lost his footing when climbing on Mount Temple, south of Lake Louise, on Saturday (July 9).

LAKE LOUISE, Alta – A man was killed after he lost his footing when climbing on Mount Temple on Saturday (July 9).

Emergency services were called before noon, with Lake Louise RCMP, Lake Louise Fire Rescue and Parks Canada responding to the call, according to the police media release.

Police said the man was hiking with other experienced hikers when he lost his footing and slipped on a patch of snow and ice. He was found deceased about 3,300 feet from the site of the fall with Parks Canada’s helicopter responding, police said.

Mount Temple is located in Banff National Park near the British Columbia and Alberta border, south of Lake Louise.

Police didn't identify the man who died.
