MORLEY, Alta. – A 33-year-old Morley resident is facing multiple charges in relation to the death of a Fort Saskatchewan woman killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1A near Morley Road Friday night (Aug. 19).
RCMP said an SUV was travelling west on Highway 1A when it crossed the yellow centre line and collided head on with a motorcycle travelling east at about 7:30 p.m.
The motorcyclist – 53-year-old Samantha Wylie – was declared dead at the scene of the collision.
Cochrane RCMP and Cochrane Fire and Emergency Services responded to the scene. STARS air ambulance was also called to the scene, but were stood down when they were no longer medically required, STARS manager of external relations and marketing Deb Tetley said in an email.
The RCMP’s collision reconstructionist team was also part of the investigation that is still ongoing. on scene and police said the investigation is ongoing.
The Morley resident – Kendra Bigstony – was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, operating a vehicle while impaired that caused death, operating a vehicle while impaired that caused bodily harm, failure to remain at the scene and driving while having a suspended or disqualified licence.
Police said Bigstony was released after a judicial hearing and will appear at Cochrane Provincial Court on Aug. 30.
