On June 19, at about 11:23 p.m., RCMP received a report of an individual with a firearm outside of the Leduc Detachment, police said in a media release on Thursday, June 20.

To locate the suspect, additional resources were deployed including the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, nearby detachments, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Air 1 Helicopter EPS Tactical Team, and the EPS Police Dog Service.

EPS Air 1 located the suspect’s vehicle in Leduc and containment was established, the release stated.

RCMP was able to make contact with the suspect and tried to de-escalate the situation.

A confrontation happened between the suspect and the officers, resulting in at least one EPS officer discharging a firearm, and injuring the suspect.

A firearm was located with the suspect, the statement reads.

No officers or members of the public were hurt during the incident.

In compliance with legislative requirements, the Director of Law Enforcement was immediately notified, causing the deployment of ASIRT to conduct an independent investigation.
