The Jasper Veterinary Clinic moved many of its services to its Valemount office after announcing its main building burnt down Wednesday.

Five days after the Jasper Veterinary Clinic was lost in the fire, evacuated staff are doing their best to make sure they can continue to serve residents — and their furry friends — to the best of their abilities.

In a July 26 Facebook post, Dr. Janet Jones announced the Jasper clinic had been lost in the fire, drawing an outcry of support from patients and community members who had relied on her help over the years.

“Our hearts are broken, not just for this tragic loss, but for the devastation that has befallen our beloved Jasper,” wrote Jones. “It is unknown at this time just how the recovery will unfold, but it is certain that we will be unable to provide veterinary care in Jasper for the foreseeable future.”

Services have been transferred to the clinic’s sister location in Valemount, where many Jasper staff members were evacuated. While the clinic is only a satellite office and can’t provide all needed services, the staff are doing what they can to help patients.

“We are here to provide what service we can, answer questions and forward records. We ask for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time,” wrote Jones in a July 28 post.

The Valemount clinic will be open until 2 p.m. on Monday, although no veterinarian will be on site. On Wednesday the clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a vet, and Tuesday and Thursday are scheduled to be as usual from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jones did add the hours may change, and recommended patients check the website for the most up-to-date information.

Jones asked patients allow 72 hours for prescription refills and medical record requests. Requests can be emailed to [email protected], or via phone during the business hours at (250) 566-4194.
