According to Calgary police, charges have been laid against one man who is accused of stabbing a Calgary Transit Peace Officer late Friday evening.
On Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., police were called to the Chinook CTrain Station, located in the 6300 block of 1A Street S.W., for reports that a Calgary Transit Peace Officer had been stabbed. It is believed that two peace officers approached an unknown man who was observed to be consuming alcohol in a nearby bus shelter, when the man became combative and produced a knife. A brief struggle ensued and one of the peace officers was stabbed in the arm. The suspect fled, however was taken into custody by the peace officers a short distance away.
Upon police arrival, CPS officers took custody of the man. The Calgary Transit Peace Officer was transported to hospital with non-life threatening and has since been released.
William Cody WOODWARD, 42, of Calgary, has been charged with one count each of assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and failing to comply with a release order. He was remanded into custody and will next appear in court on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024.

Jason Bobrowich, District 1 of the Calgary Police Service, in a statement provided to the media. “Calgary Transit Peace Officers do an incredible job keeping transit users safe in Calgary and we are grateful that this member will be okay.

"We are grateful to them for their selflessness and dedication in their pursuit to ensure the safety of Calgarians. Our thoughts are with our injured officer, their family and colleagues.”
