Meth, cocaine and fentanyl seized following traffic stop in St. Paul

St. Paul RCMP seized a significant amount of illegal drugs following a traffic stop on June 14.

Just before midnight, RCMP were conducting proactive patrols when the traffic stop took place.

Further investigation resulted in police seizing what is believed to be "72.6 grams of methamphetamine, 1.1 grams of cocaine, 5.8 grams of Fentanyl, $1,585 dollars in cash, and a loaded sawed off shotgun which was beside the driver," according to information from RCMP.

“St. Paul RCMP officers continue to work very hard to take illegal drugs and firearms off our streets,” said Cpl. Stephen Cunningham, with the St. Paul RCMP Detachment. “This seizure will have an impact in local drug trafficking and organized crime within our communities.”

Jessie Cardinal, 41, a resident of St. Paul, was charged with 10 different counts, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a firearm when unauthorized, and unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon.

Cardinal was brought before a Justice of the Peace and released on $5,000 cash bail with conditions to appear at Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on June 27, according to information from RCMP.

Owen Hunter, 34, a resident of Saddle Lake, has been charged with five different counts, including possession of a firearm when unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a restrict weapon, and obstruction of a peace officer.

Hunter was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was released on conditions to appear in court in St. Paul on July 11.
