KANANASKIS – A young skier is in hospital with “trauma-related injuries” after slamming into trees Sunday (Dec. 3) at a local ski hill.
The injured male, a minor, was attended to by ski patrols at the Nakiska ski area in Kananaskis Country Sunday morning before being taken by ground EMS to a staging area around 11:40 a.m., where he was airlifted to a Calgary hospital.
“From an EMS standpoint, I would describe his condition as having been serious but stable and non-life threatening while under EMS care, at any rate,” said Stuart Brideaux, Alberta Health Service public education officer.
STARS air ambulance transported the patient to Alberta Children’s Hospital, said spokesperson Jonah van Driesum.
“I can confirm that we rendezvoused with EMS at the Nakoda Casino Helipad just outside of Morley in relationship to an incident where a patient suffered trauma-related injuries,” van Driesum said in an email.
An update on the patient isn’t available at this time.
