More than 300 items from Ian Tyson estate up for auction

From cowboy boots to artwork, hundreds of items owned by the late singer-songwriter who lived near Longview are up for auction

Ian Tyson fans can bid on items owned by the celebrated Canadian folk and country musician. 

Tyson passed away at his Foothills County ranch in 2022 at the age of 89 and pieces of his estate are being auctioned by a Calgary auction house. 

Online bidding on more than 330 items is open at Hall’s Auction Services. Bidding closes on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. MST. 

Fans or collectors can bid on various items that were owned by Tyson, including silk scarves and cowboy boots, furniture, Charlie Russel prints and other artwork, Navajo rugs or artist’s passes to music festivals and concerts. 

There is also a first-edition copy of Leaves from the Medicine Tree, a rare book chronicling the history of southwestern Alberta pioneers. 

Before bidding ends, showroom previews will be held at the auction house between noon and 4 p.m. from Aug. 18 to 20. 

Tyson picked up dozens of awards and honours over a 50-year career. His song Four Strong Winds was named the greatest Canadian Song of all time by CBC Radio One listeners on the series 50 Tracks: The Canadian Version.
