KOOTENAY NATIONAL PARK – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a bear on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 4) in Kootenay National Park.
Police said the deadly single-vehicle incident occurred on Highway 93 near Settler’s Road, north of Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, where two people on a motorbike crashed into a bear on the road.
The passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital.
“One person was deceased at the scene. [The driver] clipped it while trying to avoid the bear and [lost] control of the motorcycle,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, division media relations officer.
“We are continuing to investigate. There is no indication of anything criminal at this time.”
STARS air ambulance was called to the emergency scene at approximately 2:12 p.m.
DriveBC reported that both directions of the highway have fully re-opened.
