A former Mouseketeer from Florida is coming to southern Alberta to talk about how to become a star.
Jennifer McGill began her career on The Disney Channel’s and is coming to Cochrane, west of Calgary, will share guidance for up-and-coming musical entertainers.
The session will include two hours of speaking and Q&A with instructors, followed by a Live Show Workshop where Instructor(s) work with attending artists on one song they will present for feedback.
McGill will touch on how to take care of your voice, how vocal production works, maintaining spiritual and physical balance in the recording industry, why is self-esteem important, an overview of what it takes to be an artist, songwriting (how to get started), social media safety, and parental goals.
Along with such luminaries as Ryan Gosling and Britney Spears, McGill began her career on The Disney Channel’s "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" at age 10.
She is a speaker, singer, songwriter, worship leader, scriptwriter, vocal coach, and vocal producer with over 35 years of experience in front of audiences around the world.
In an interview from her home in Ormond Beach, Florida, McGill said young people who may be contemplating chasing their singer-songwriter dream would do well to recognize it’s a tremendous challenge and they may need a bit of help.
“We are targeting the time in a young artists life where their parents are curious as to how this goes, they’re trying to help their kids find the best path.
“You need to ask yourself is this the life I want . . . show business is not like any other business – it is an extreme gamble of your time and talent and finances,” she said.
McGill has performed and collaborated with various entertainers, including Christina Aguilera, Boyz II Men, Carman, Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette, Keri Russell, Deke Sharon (vocal arranger for the movies Pitch Perfect 1, 2 & 3), Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake.
Having been a Mouseketeer the same time as Gosling, she said she knew him “just Ken-uff.”
McGill released her full-length solo album "Unbreakable" in 2017 and is now dedicated to preparing the next generations of recording artists.

According to their promotional material, the Nashville Roadshow is “a one-day mentoring event that brings together high-demand instructors and artists-to-be in a supportive, safe, enriching environment where enlightenment and excellence are attainable.”
