BONNYVILLE - A Bonnyville elementary teacher was charged with sexual offences earlier in this month, according to RCMP.

On Sept. 5, Bonnyville RCMP say they were contacted by concerned parents regarding alleged "inappropriate contact with a student by a teacher."

RCMP were told that at the end of August, the teacher allegedly sexually assaulted the student "and paid the student money in hopes that they would not disclose the incident," according to information from police.

On Sept. 6, following an investigation, Bonnyville RCMP arrested Janelle Arnold, a 35-year-old resident from Bonnyville.

"The victim is not a current student of Duclos School or Janelle Arnold," according to the information provided by RCMP.

Arnold was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. She was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was released on a release order with conditions.

Arnold is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville.

Bonnyville RCMP are reaching out to offer support and encourage anyone who has information to contact Bonnyville RCMP at 780-343-7200.

Duclos School is located within the community of Bonnyville. It is part of Northern Lights Public Schools.
