WESTLOCK – Police have charged 30-year-old Tanner William Nelson with attempted murder in connection to a stabbing north of Westlock early Friday afternoon.

Nelson has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for Aug. 28 at the Albert Court of Justice in Westlock.

Westlock RCMP had responded at about 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 23 to a report of a stabbing at a home off Highway 44 near Township Road 603 in Westlock County.  When they arrived, they found an adult who had been stabbed and required medical attention.

Police say that Nelson fled into a wooded area in Westlock County after the stabbing. Westlock RCMP teamed up with Barrhead RCMP, Morinville RCMP, Police Dog Services, and resources from the Emergency Response Team to locate Nelson. He was arrested around 7 p.m. without incident.

RCMP had also issued an Alberta Emergency Alert for the Westlock County area advising people not to open their door to strangers or pick up any hitchhikers.

The victim is expected to recover, say police.
