BONNYVILLE - Despite his best efforts to evade the law, a man from Iron River has been remanded into custody after failing to appear in court on a number of occasions.
In October of 2020, a 57-year-old man was arrested and charged for impaired driving, driving over 0.08 and uttering threats. On Feb. 2, 2021, he failed to attend court and an arrest warrant was issued.
"That arrest warrant was subsequently executed and a new court date was set but the male failed to attend court again on that date of June 15, 2021. Yet another arrest warrant was issued, executed and the male was issued another court date of Jan. 4, 2022, however he again failed to attend," according to Bonnyville RCMP.
On Jan. 28, a member of the Bonnyville RCMP attended a rural farm northeast of Iron River, looking for the man who again found himself on warrant for the original offences and the numerous incidents of failing to attend court.
"The member located the male hiding in the rafters in a barn on the property and arrested him without incident," according to police. This time, the man was remanded into custody and is now set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Feb. 15.
