Sixty-seven million to one.

Those are the odds Okotoks golfer Bruce LeMessurier managed to reel in by hitting not one, but two holes in one during the same round on Aug. 16 at the Nanton Golf Club.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever heard of anybody getting two in a round,” LeMessurier said. “My buddy Googled it and he said it was 67 million to one (odds). I told my son about it and he said you better go and buy a lottery ticket.”

After what he described as a not so great start to the round, he bucked the trend on the eighth.

Using a nine-iron on the 136-yard hole, LeMessurier didn’t realize what he’d done until passing the flag marker.

“I hit the ball, it went up and bounced in front of the green and popped in the hole,” he said. “We never saw where it landed so we were walking up and I was saying, ‘Where’s my ball? It should be around here somewhere.’ I passed the hole and it was in the bottom of the cup.”

On the back nine, LeMessurier had two holes left to go, one of which has been a memorable one.

The ace on the 191-yard 17th was the second time he’s accomplished the feat on that hole.

LeMessurier used a six-iron for the eagle on the par-three.

“There’s a big pond on the left hand side of the hole and mostly I’m on the right hand side of the green because I shy away from the water,” he said. “But it was just one of these days where you go, the heck with it, I’m going to go for it and it went in.”

The Okotokian now has five holes in one to his credit, the other two accomplished in Drumheller.

LeMessurier, 72, plays in a threesome on a four times per week basis for the past 12 years as a member at Nanton with upwards of 25 years of playing the sport consistently.

“(Nanton) is in great shape,” he said. “The people that run it are an amazing crew, the grounds crew, the office staff, pro shop, they’re friendly, they talk to you.

“It’s a great crew down there and that’s why I keep going back.”
