Police in Okotoks are warning people against harassment after a racially-charged video was posted to social media.
In an Oct. 30 media release, RCMP say they are aware of a social media post where an Uber driver was subjected to a disturbing racial tirade from a passenger.
A three-minute video of the incident, posted to X, formerly Twitter, has been viewed over 153,000 times. The video may be disturbing to viewers.
The passenger describes himself as a “born and raised Calgarian” and “white blood of the land,” and the driver, who said he is from India, stops the car and asks the passenger to leave.
According to a timestamp, the dashcam video was recorded on Sept. 21 at about 9:13 p.m.
According to police, the social media post later included the address where the passenger was picked up by the Uber driver.
The address provided in the post is not related to the passenger and the residents are being harassed due to the posts, police said.
Those found participating in harassment or threats towards this innocent third party may be subject to criminal charges, police said.
RCMP are investigating the incident.
