One man is in custody after allegedly driving drunk and ramming a police cruiser Wednesday evening.
Around 6 p.m. the night of Jan. 26, Okotoks RCMP received complaints about a potentially impaired driver
A pickup was subsequently found spun out facing the wrong way on the grass at an intersection in the town approximately 20 kilometres south of Calgary.
“We had multiple calls about him and we located him at that point on the road,” said RCMP Cpl. Mike Harris, whose vehicle had been struck.
“When we tried to stop him he tried to push my police vehicle out of the way, so now he’s under arrest.”
Open liquor containers were found in the vehicle, but the full details of any potential intoxication has not been released at this time.
Harris said no one was injured in the incident, including himself. One man was in custody, and more information may come as charges are sworn.
The underlying problem of driving under the influence is one Harris said he would like to see the end of.
“It’s just frustrating that people continue to drink and drive,” he said.
