Person dead in Kananaskis Country's Barrier Lake area

The victim was deceased at the scene and an investigation into the "drowning" is ongoing.

KANANASKIS COUNTRY – An adult died in the Barrier Lake area in Kananaskis Country on Saturday (July 13).

The victim was deceased at the scene and an investigation into the "drowning" is ongoing.

"On the afternoon of July 13 ... an event in the Barrier Lake area where one adult was deceased at the scene," said Christine Harris, a spokesperson for Alberta Health Services.

RCMP said an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday (July 16).

The Outlook will update the story as more information becomes available.

It's the second death in Kananaskis Country in the past week.

On Friday, the body of a 66-year-old man was found a week after he was overdue from hiking in the Kananaskis Country wilderness.

The hiker, identified by RCMP as Milenko Todic of Edmonton, was found near Holy Cross Mountain, near Highway 541.

RCMP said the circumstances surrounding his death are not deemed to be suspicious.
