A man has been charged following two separate stabbings that occurred in downtown Calgary.
Around 9:30 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, police were called to Century Gardens Park, located in the 800 block of 8 Street S.W., for reports that a person had been stabbed. The suspect left on foot and the victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.
Several hours later, at approximately 12:45 a.m., on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, with the help of Calgary Transit and The City of Calgary Corporate Security, the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident.
Both incidents left victims with serious injuries.
The suspect was charged and remanded into custody.
Following his arrest, detectives were able to link the suspect to another stabbing that occurred at the City Hall CTrain Station, located in the 300 block 7 Avenue S.E., on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m. In this incident, the victim was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Both victims continue to recover and have since been released from hospital. It has been determined that the victims and suspect were unknown to each other, and the incidents appear to have been random in nature.
