RCMP investigate bear spray incident in mall parking lot

A Calgary resident who simply wanted to sell his computer monitor was robbed and sprayed with bear spray outside a shopping centre in Balzac.

A Calgary resident who wanted to sell his computer monitor was robbed and sprayed with bear spray on Oct. 10, in the parking lot of the New Horizon Mall shopping centre in Balzac.

According to Airdrie Rural RCMP, officers responded to the mall at 2:08 p.m. to investigate a reported robbery. There, they found a 25-year-old male victim, who had arranged online to sell a computer monitor to another person.

But upon meeting the buyer, RCMP stated the victim was bear-sprayed by a group of three men, who took the computer monitor and departed in a white SUV, similar to a Nissan Rogue.

"The male met with three males, one of which bear sprayed him," a press release from Airdrie RCMP stated.

The male was treated by EMS on scene and did not sustain any other physical injuries, according to the release.

The three suspects are described as men in their early 20s. All three were stated to have a "medium complexion." Two of the men were approximately 5'10" while the third was 5'8."

One suspect wore a hooded sweatshirt, one wore all black ripped jeans, a hooded sweatshirt, and a Gucci belt and had a light patchy beard, while the shortest of the three wore a light grey hooded sweatshirt with white or light grey sweatpants.
