Police are investigating allegations of the illegal sale and slaughter of livestock in southern Alberta.
The investigation, related to the slaughter and sale of sheep and goats, began in November 2023 and involves “a number of individuals, many rural locations, and a number of stores in the City of Calgary,” RCMP said in a press release on April 22.
Specific information about locations or individuals included in the investigation was not provided by police.
RCMP said Alberta Health Services was notified about seven stores that are included in the investigation.
Information provided by the RCMP comes after several halal food establishments in Calgary were ordered to close by AHS for allegedly buying and selling uninspected meat.
The investigation continues and no other details would immediately be released, RCMP said.
