RCMP recently recovered a large amount of stolen property from a rural residence in the County of St. Paul.
On May 15, as a part of ongoing property crime investigations in the area, Elk Point RCMP with the assistance of Bonnyville RCMP, Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services and K Division Auto Theft Unit executed a search warrant at a residence located in the County of St. Paul.
"As a result of the search, officers were able to recover stolen property with an approximate value of $150,000 including an all terrain vehicle, utility terrain vehicle, vertical tillage equipment and a tractor," according to information from RCMP.
“The reduction of property crime in the Elk Point area has been one of our detachment’s main priorities. This seizure was made possible through the joint effort of multiple detachments and units. We are committed to ensuring offenders responsible for these crimes are put before the courts," says Cst. Shad Martyn of the Elk Point Detachment.
As a result of the investigation, Leslie Alan Hillebrand, 46, a resident of the County of St. Paul, has been charged with several offences, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (x4), possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of weapon contrary to order, possession of suspected methamphetamine and altering a vehicle identification number.
Following a judicial interim release hearing, Hillebrand was remanded into custody, according to information from RCMP.
He is scheduled to appear in court on May 23 at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul.
