It’s a good time to hit the slopes in southern Alberta.
Recent snowfalls have buoyed several of the world-class ski hills in the region during what’s been a difficult season for skiers and snowboarders.
At Castle Mountain, more than 50cm fell over the past eight days, which amounts to just under one-seventh of its snowfall this season. The snow base at the Pincher Creek area resort is at 103cm where five of six lifts are open.
Nakiska has also benefited from recent precipitation with 21cm over the past week, boosting the base to 90cm and the season snowfall total to 166cm.
Five of six chairs are open at the Kananaskis Country ski hill with the gold chair currently closed for maintenance.
At Mount Norquay in Banff, the upper mountain base sits at 91cm following 28cm of the white stuff over the past week. The year-to-date snowfall sits at 217cm.
All lifts are open with 50 out of 60 runs in operation.
At Sunshine Village, all 12 lifts are open with 122 runs open. The past seven days have brought 21cm of snow with the base at 104cm and cumulative amount at 300cm.
It’s a similar story further west at Lake Louise.
There’s been 24cm of new snow in the past week, bringing the total to 331cm for the year.
The mountain has all 11 of its lifts open and 142 of 164 runs open along with its four terrain parks and tube park.
Short-range forecasts are calling for a small amount of snow at the alpine level to start the week.
