RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathmore RCMP stated there was a potential witness to the Rocky View County Aug. 6 shooting and are seeking public assistance in identifying them.
An image of a dark grey coloured Volkswagen Golf Sportwagon was shared, potentially between 2013 and 2015. This car was captured on dash cam video driving past the scene at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250, at the same time the shooting occurred, on Aug. 6 at 11:55 a.m. RCMP need to speak to the occupants of this car. It could be critical in obtaining important information for this investigation.

Through the investigation, a vehicle of interest was also identified. This vehicle is a white 2013 Dodge Ram with teal aftermarket rims and shell shaped lug nuts. It was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Abadan Place N.E. Calgary on Aug. 5, 2024, at 5:55 a.m. RCMP is not looking for this vehicle.
RCMP are seeking public assistance to identify any video footage of this vehicle or the subjects who were in it, between the time of its theft up to the time the shooting occurred, which was Aug. 6 at approximately 11:56 a.m.
RCMP have numerous resources continuing with this investigation. As soon as more details become available, a further update will be sent.
The Aug. 6 shooting
Strathmore RCMP responded to the shooting call to discover two people shot, one with a superficial wound, and another, Colin Hough, was fatally wounded. According to RCMP suspects fled the scene in a stolen County work truck. The suspects dumped the truck at Range Road 260 and Township Road 252, located in Wheatland County, and fled the scene.
Rocky View County confirmed that Colin Hough was one of their employees and was killed in the shooting at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250.
“This tragic and senseless act has deeply affected us all," wrote County acting Chief Administrative Officer Byron Riemann in a statement on the County's website. "Colin was a valued member of our team, and we extend our deepest condolences to Colin's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
“Our community is shocked and heartbroken by this devastating event," said RVC Reeve Crystal Kissel. "We will support Colin's family and colleagues in any way we can as we stand together in grieving this loss.”
A GoFundMe has been set up for Hough's family and has raised over $8,000 of its $10,000 goal.
"Colin was a beloved father, husband, son, colleague and friend who never hesitated to help anyone," states the GoFundMe. "He leaves behind a beautiful family, including his wife and two small children who will need as much help as possible as they navigate this unimaginable and unexpected loss."
FortisAlberta confirmed that one of its employees was the other shooting victim. According to Fortis, their employee was treated for their injury and was released from the hospital yesterday evening.
Police warn that the at-large suspects are armed and dangerous.
