CREMONA - A school bus with no students on board was in a collision with a semi truck outside Cremona on Wednesday morning, officials said.

“While the driver was waiting to turn left onto Township Road 304 from Highway 22, the bus was struck from behind by a semi truck,” Cremona School principal Darryl Korody said in a letter sent to parents.

“There were no students on the bus at the time of the incident. The driver has been transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

A Chinook’s Edge School Division official has visited the site of the collision, he noted.

“Our transportation director has already been to the site of the incident, and based on all of the information available to us, we believe our bus driver was doing everything you would expect of a safe, professional driver,” he said.

In concluding his letter to parents, Korody said, “We have a great community of bus drivers and as a result a plan is already in place to have the students on route  driven home at the end of the school day today (Mar. 28).

Didsbury RCMP did not immediately return a call Thursday morning seeking further information.
