Semi driver killed in crash near Nanton this morning

A semi truck carrying ammonium nitrate crashed this morning at about 4:30 a.m., killing the driver. Highway 2 near Nanton is still closed as a result.

RCMP provided an update to a fatal crash that occurred early in the morning on Aug. 14 near Nanton.

Southbound Highway 2 remains closed north of Nanton following a fatal accident this morning. 

In an afternoon update, RCMP said they were notified of a single-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck on Highway 2 at about 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 14. 

The driver, a 31-year-old male, died at the scene, police said. 

The truck was carrying ammonium nitrate, and the southbound lanes of the highway remain closed and drivers are asked to avoid the area.  

RCMP said an update will be provided when the roadway reopens and they extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
