BANFF – Parks Canada initial attack crews were quick to bring a small wildfire under control west of the Banff townsite.
Crews responded to a small 0.2-hectare fire in Banff National Park’s backcountry just south of Redearth and Pharaoh creeks junction late Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 6) and are working to put it out completely.
Officials say there is currently no threat to the public, infrastructure, or communities and an update will be posted once the fire is extinguished.
“Thanks to the work of fire crew members, with support from a helicopter bucketing, the fire near Redearth and Pharaoh Creeks junction was brought under control yesterday evening,” stated Parks Canada in a social media post on Wednesday morning (Aug. 7).
“Fire crew members will return to the site this morning to confirm full extinguishment.”
The fire danger rating was downgraded to moderate in Banff National Park on Tuesday following widespread rainfall and lower temperatures; however, a fire ban continues to remain place in Banff National Park.
Reports of wildfires, illegal campfires or suspicious smoke can be called into to Parks Canada’s emergency dispatch at 403-762-4506.
