Solar Pump & Motor focuses on the future

Richard Gerlach has been providing water pump solutions to cattle farmers since 1997.

“I wanted my own business,” he says of the company he started alongside his science teaching career. “My family’s farm and my business are in Rochester, (Alta.). I’m here because this is where I’m from.”

His love and experience with both farming and science led him to discover the value of solar direct pipeline systems. Now, as Solar Pump & Motor, he serves a variety of industries.

But, as Gerlach points out, “farm customers have had dismal years for a plethora of reasons. It’s hard to say how much of an impact is a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic because agriculture has been hit hard over the years. Things like transportation channels being upset and beef plants shutting down – in all my years in farming I’ve never encountered so much uncertainty. It doesn’t inspire consumer confidence. I’ve written just as many quotes this year as I did last year, but people don’t know if they are ready to buy.”

A product he knows can help are the pipeline systems Solar Pump & Motor designs.

“We design pipeline systems that are mostly solar powered, and we also design efficient AC systems. We offer unique designs for water distribution including solar direct (no battery) systems and pipelines. For solar direct pipelines we use gravity feeds and tanks," explains Gerlach

"We also have a water station comprised of tanks and troughs on wheels. We can also trailer mount many pump and panel units and pump water to distant troughs. When you can move water to the cows instead of using stationary trough systems that require the cows to move to the water, grazing efficiency increases immensely.”

Solar Pump & Motor is looking to connect with those interested in these types of innovative systems. Call 780-886-4328 to learn more, or and visit solarpumps.ca.
