Southern Alberta RCMP recover 150 tires in fraud case

Tires recovered during a police investigation into fraudulent credit card purchases.

An RCMP investigation has turned up 150 tires thought to be purchased with fraudulent credit cards. 

RCMP in southern Alberta, along with Lethbridge police, began an investigation after six businesses got phone or online orders for a specific tire. 

An order would be placed for eight to 12 BF Goodrich K02 275/60/R20 tires that would be picked up the next day by a male with a U-Haul van. 

Police executed three search warrants related to the investigation that led to charges against a Montreal man. 

Shawn Robineault, 42, is facing multiple counts of: 

  • Fraud Over $5,000 
  • Fraud Under $5,000 
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 
  • Identity Fraud 
  • Identity Theft 
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order 

Any tire resellers in southern Alberta who sold more than eight BF Goodrich K02 tires in August are asked to contact their local RCMP detachment non-emergency line or the RCMP Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit at 403-945-7267, referencing case number 2024-1219077. 

Robineault was remanded into custody pending an Aug. 26 judicial hearing at Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
