DIAMOND VALLEY - Racers will splash and dash in Diamond Valley on Canada Day.
The second annual Diamond Valley Splash and Dash on July 1 is a swim in the Dr. Lander Memorial Pool followed by a run along the Friendship Trail in Diamond Valley. The race is hosted by RnR Premiere Events.
The family-friendly race is open to all ages and geared towards kids, said race director Kaden Katelnikoff.
“The goal is definitely to see kids out there smiling,” Katelnikoff said.
Beginning at 9 a.m. with a wave start, the race is expected to wrap up by 11 a.m., leaving families time to enjoy other Canada Day activities, he said.
Distances that participants will swim and run varies by age, but for those 16 and over it is a 500-metre swim and a five-kilometre run. The out-and-back race has turnaround points for younger racers, and kids under six will run straight to the finish line from the pool.
“All you need is your bathing suit and a pair of shoes,” he said.
The finish line is near the gazebo at Millennium Park, and racers will be greeted with snacks and music at the finish line.
Registration for the event is $85 for adults and $65 for kids under 16. Racers can sign up online or get more information on the RnR Premier Events webpage.
Racers will get a race bib and finisher's medal, a T-shirt, swim cap and some other goodies.
A discount code is available for 15 per cent off registration by entering READY4SUMMER when prompted on the website, Katelnikoff said.
Race packages can be picked up at Millennium Park on the morning of the race, or they can be picked up on June 30 at Try-It Multisport in Calgary.
The Splash and Dash is an Alberta Triathlon Association (ATA) sanctioned event, and participants are required to purchase an ATA day membership if they aren't already members.
