Less than two weeks after hoisting the Stanley Cup as a member of the Florida Panthers, St. Albert-raised defenceman Josh Mahura has signed a one-year contract to play for the Seattle Kraken.

Mahura, 26, spent the past two seasons with the Panthers, playing in all 82 of the team's regular season games as well as 21 playoff games in the 2022-2023 season before an injury and stiff competition for ice-time led to him playing in just 30 regular season games this past season. The former St. Albert Raider was a healthy scratch for Florida's entire playoff run in 2024, which, in case those in the Edmonton region forgot, ended with a Game 7 victory over the Edmonton Oilers to win the Cup.

The Kraken announced on July 3 that they signed the St. Albert product to a one-year one-way contract, which will pay Mahura $775,000. Seattle played its inaugural season in 2021-2022.

Mahura was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2016 NHL entry draft in the third round, 85th overall.

In 191 career NHL regular season games he's registered 10 goals and 35 assists.
