The Skybox Grill located inside St. Albert's Servus Place recreation centre has cancelled a reservation made by the controversial political group Take Back Alberta for a Christmas party.
The event, which was advertised by the group online as a way “celebrate our successes,” was set to take place on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Take Back Alberta's founder, David Parker, was advertised to be attending the event, as was former Olympic figure skater Jamie Salé, who in recent years has made headlines for spreading COVID-19 vaccine conspiracy theories.
On Dec. 6, the City of St. Albert posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the Skybox Grill's ownership “has since made the decision not to accommodate the group’s reservation.”
The City of St. Albert understands that a private group made a reservation at a leased space within Servus Credit Union Place, but the leaseholder has since made the decision to not accommodate the group’s reservation. This is their right in alignment with their lease agreement.

“This is their right in alignment with their lease agreement,” the city's post reads.
Earlier this week, Servus Credit Union, the recreation centre's namesake, responded to multiple X user's concerns about Take Back Alberta having an event at the restaurant by saying that Servus is “not involved in the day-to-day operations of the St. Albert recreation centre, including bookings at the facility.”
“In partnering with the City of St. Albert, we hope to provide a facility where residents can access resources and amenities to pursue healthy, active living.”
The Gazette was unable to immediately verify, or contact, the restaurant's owner.
