Stolen property including trailers and "copious amounts of stolen copper wire" were seized by Bonnyville RCMP during a search warrant that was executed on April 25, near Fort Kent.
On April 25, Bonnyville RCMP executed a search warrant at a rural property on Range Road 452, near Township Road 621, where police believed there was stolen property.
"As members were entering the property, a vehicle departed but was pulled over a short distance down the road," according to information from RCMP. "The driver was found to be impaired by drug and a search of the vehicle revealed he was also in possession of a controlled substance."
The subsequent search also found stolen trailers and stolen copper wire at the property, along with prohibited firearms inside the residence.
"In total four arrests were made," according to police, and two men have been charged.
Dakota Masson, 37, and Jason Nunweiller, 48, both of Cold Lake are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and two counts of altering or destroying a VIN.
Masson is also charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, eight counts of possession of a weapon contrary to order, and possession of cocaine. He was also issued provincial sanctions for impaired driving, and the vehicle he was driving was seized for 30 days.
Both individuals were brought before a Justice of a Peace and both were remanded in custody until their first court appearance.
