Charities in the Okotoks area are reaping the financial benefits of the Alberta Summer Games.
The 2023 Alberta Summer Games presented its biggest cheque to an Okotoks non-profit from surplus funds from the Games held in Okotoks and Diamond Valley in July.
Members of the Games executive presented KidSport Okotoks with a $50,000 cheque on Dec. 8.
The Games is donating surplus funds to numerous organizations in the Foothills, including Okotoks Art Council, children’s programming, Foothills Country Hospice Society, Sheep River Health Trust, Advocacy in Motion, Okotoks Food Bank, Okotoks School Lunch Program, Family and Community Services, Inclusion Foothills, Foothills Schools Foundation and Holy Trinity Academy.
The Town of Okotoks and the Town of Diamond Valley, the Games' host communities, are also receiving money to help cover costs incurred for the Games.
Okotoks will be reimbursed $100,000 for the construction costs of the beach volleyball pits and Diamond Valley will receive $50,000 towards costs incurred for the mountain bike track, both of which were built for the Games last summer.
