The Calgary Police Service is investigating a vehicle fire in Foothills County that took place before 9 a.m. on Dec. 15.
Okotoks and Foothills County emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle fire on 296 Avenue East. They located a burnt-out SUV matching the description of a vehicle thought to be connected to a fatal shooting that took place earlier in Calgary. Okotoks RCMP then notified CPS.
CPS confirms the fire is connected to a homicide in southeast Calgary that police responded to about half an hour before the vehicle fire.
Investigators are now looking for tips from anyone who may have seen an individual in a white 2022 Ford Expedition filling a container with gas. The suspect, or suspects, is thought to have bought gas before the shooting and used the gas to burn the vehicle.
In an earlier press release, CPS said the homicide unit is investigating a fatal shooting in southeast Calgary.
At about 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 15, CPS responded to reports of shots being fired in the 200-block of Douglas Ridge Circle S.E.
One man was found deceased when officers arrived. CPS believes the shooting was targeted, and investigators are gathering CCTV footage and information from witnesses.
