Wabasca RCMP charge 20-year-old woman with second degree murder

Officers arrested the suspect on scene after responding to report of assault

A 20-year-old woman has been charged with second degree murder after police responded to a report of an assault at a Big Cree Nation residence.

WABASCA — Wabasca RCMP have charged a 20-year-old Bigstone Cree Nation woman with second degree murder after receiving a report of an assault at a residence which left a 75-year-old dead Oct 17.

A woman was found and arrested on the scene after officers arrived and attempted life-saving measures on the victim, who was pronounced dead by EMS. The woman has also been charged with assault with a weapon against a second victim, who police said experienced no life-threatening injuries.

Kree Taysheyah Roasting was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody until her appearance at Wabasca Court of Justice Oct. 19.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken lead on the investigation. Roasting’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Slave Lake Court of Justice.
