WATCH: RCMP helicopter rescues stranded trapper in Northern Alberta

Fort McKay man needed assistance after his ATV overturned in a waterway while he was making his way back to his trapping cabin

A Fort McKay First Nations trapper was rescued by members of the Boyle RCMP after his Argo — a type of tracked ATV — overturned and became stuck near Wandering River.

On Sept. 29 at 12:48 p.m., the detachment received a report from the hunter, who said they were 15 miles west of Highway 63 near Agnes Lake. He had been making his way back to his cabin when the incident occured.

The man was rescued with the assistance of the Alberta RCMP helicopter MPP. The hunter, who was cold and wet, was outside in the 4 degree weather. He was transported to Lac La Biche airport without any injuries.

"Conditions were cold and wet," said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, a public information officer in the Alberta RCMP. "The quick coordination and execution of this rescue prevented the hunter from needing medical attention in a situation that could have ended differently."
