BOWDEN — Town officials have applied to the provincial government for a grant to help cover costs for a proposed repaving project in the community’s downtown core.
If that funding -- applied for under the province’s Municipal Stimulus Program -- is approved, the work would be undertaken along 22nd Street from 21st Avenue to Highway 587 (also known as 27th Avenue).
Ideally, engineering and survey work would be undertaken later this fall and repaving would be done late next spring.
In total, the project is expected to cost about $400,000.
Town officials are hoping to receive a $147,000 grant from the province. Skotheim says they haven’t yet figured out where the remainder of the money will come from. That will be determined during budget deliberations.
Skotheim says the work is badly needed.
“It’s starting to fail. Potholes, repairs required,” he said during an interview.
“And it’s one of our major streets coming through town, by the school.”
