BOWDEN — RCMP are investigating an attempted theft of fuel tanks from a business near Bowden.

Police got a 911 call at about 3:15 p.m. on April 11 from a representative of W.A. Grain & Pulse Solutions, which is located near Bowden on Rge. Rd. 11 and Twp. Rd. 343.

RCMP learned that a suspect or suspects driving a blue 2005-2010 Chevrolet Silverado entered onto the property at about 2:15 a.m. on April 11.

The truck was towing an enclosed trailer which was later determined to have been stolen in Bowden.

“Suspects dropped the enclosed trailer, then re-entered the town of Olds lot to further steal a flatbed trailer," Olds RCMP Cpl. Courtney Harding wrote in a news release.

“The suspects then re-entered the property at WA Grain (& Pulse) Solutions and attempted to steal two very large fuel tanks, one full of approximately 500 litres of gasoline, and another with about 1,000 litres of diesel by attaching them to tow ropes and pulling them from their stands.

“This resulted in punctured fuel tanks that subsequently leaked into the property ground and a nearby drainage ditch and creek,” she added.

Bowden firefighters worked to contain the fuel spill and Alberta Environment has been contacted for further assessment and clean-up.

Harding decried the “blatant disregard” for the property of others exhibited by these suspects.

She said the damage inflicted on the property and to the environment is “currently being assessed and is expected to be substantial.”

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Olds RCMP at 403-556-3324 or their local police.
