BOWDEN — Bowden Grandview School 2020 graduates will be fetted today (Oct. 24) during the school’s grad ceremony.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony is being held in the fall instead of the spring as it would normally. Eighteen students are eligible to graduate this year.

The cap and gown ceremony will start things off at 9 a.m. in the school gym.

The class of 2020 celebration will then be held at the Paterson Community Centre, starting at 3 p.m.

Due to Alberta Health Services protocols attendees will be limited to 100 people, including grads.

Speakers at the cap and gown ceremony include Red Deer-Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen, Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA Devin Dreeshen, Town of Bowden Mayor Robb Stuart, Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) trustee Connie Huelsman and CESD associate superintendent Karyn Barber.

Camron Martin is the school’s 2019-2020 valedictorian.

“The class of 2020 celebration at the hall will focus on the graduates as students, parents and staff celebrate the last 13 years of their student lives and the milestones they have achieved,” principal Jeff Thompson wrote in an email.

Normally, a banquet would be held in the evening, but that event has been cancelled due to AHS protocols.
