BOWDEN — A power outage that occurred in Bowden early Saturday morning lasted about an hour for all but three customers, a spokesman for power provider FortisAlberta says.
Manager of public affairs Peter Brodsky says the outage occurred at about 7 a.m. and power was restored to all but three customers by 8 a.m. He says a total of 1,057 customers were affected by the outage.
Brodsky says service to the remaining three customers were restored “once equipment repair was completed but he could not say how long that took.
He said the cause of the outage was determined to be equipment failure.
This was the second power outage to occur in Bowden and area in about two weeks. The Albertan asked Brodsky if the two incidents are connected.
“There is no indication that this outage is related to an outage in the area approximately two weeks ago,” he wrote in an email.
“Though our crews regularly inspect and maintain our equipment to minimize outages, unanticipated equipment failures and outages can still sometimes occur,” he wrote.
“In such cases, our goal is to reroute power and repair equipment to restore our customers as safely and quickly as possible.”
The Albertan asked Bowden Mayor Robb Stuart for his thoughts, given that his town had now experienced two power outages in a couple of weeks.
"Bowden does not have an issue with power outages," Stuart wrote in an email. "They do happen occasionally, but a not as frequently or the duration that they used to be.
"The previous one was an exception as it did take some time to fix. Fortunately, the town office was the only building significantly affected. Technology/remote monitoring have drastically reduced down time.
"All service providers to the town (specifically Atco and Fortis) have excellent customer service and have responded to any issues in a prompt manner," he added.
