BOWDEN – The first Bowden Daze Pro Rodeo Queen to be crowned in about 40 years was chosen earlier this month.
Tyler Jamieson, of rural Strathmore, received the crown during the first night of the rodeo, held July 14-16.
Four ladies, including Jamieson, competed for the crown.
During an interview with the Albertan, the 25-year-old was asked how it felt to to be chosen.
“(I’m) pretty honoured, actually,” she said. “It’s a pretty cool experience and a pretty good chance to bring back what was there once and bring it back again, get little kids back involved and be an ambassador for the town of Bowden.”
As rodeo queen, Jamieson’s role is not only to attend all things Bowden Daze related – including the two nights of rodeo, the junior rodeo and the parade – but also to attend other rodeos to promote Bowden Daze and the town.
Jamieson was also asked why she decided to compete for the crown.
“I’ve been around horses all my life and it’s kind of been something I’ve always wanted to do but haven’t really took the step to jump and do it,” she said.
“So, I thought I’d take myself out of my comfort zone and take a shot, and here we are.”
Jamieson said she was surprised and excited to win the crown.
“I tend to be more hard on myself than I should be, so when I think, ‘Oh, how did that go?’ I’m like, ‘hmmm, not so great.’ But today, it went OK,” she said.
When not attending rodeos, Jamieson works as a training co-ordinator for Lowe’s Canada, the big box hardware store chain.
