BOWDEN – The first Winter Fun Event, held in Bowden Feb. 11 may be just the first of many to come, its organizer says.
Joanne Brown, a family facilitator with the Innisfail and Area Family Resources Network, organized the afternoon of activities.
They were held at the Olde Library Community Centre at the south end of the Igloo Arena parking lot from 1 to 3 p.m.
About 30 people came out.
Brown was pleased with that turnout, noting she had planned for 30 to 50 people.
Activities included snow painting (squirting food colouring to make a picture in the snow), a sled pull and snow darts (throwing darts into a hoop to score points).
People could also warm up around a fire, drink hot chocolate and eat s'mores.
Brown said all the activities seemed to generate lots of excitement, but the most popular seemed to be the snow painting and eating the smores.
“The whole idea was just to get families out doing something together,” she said during an interview.
Brown said the event was so successful, there will likely be another one next year, although next time she’ll probably do more advertising to try to get more people to attend.
