BOWDEN — Representatives of those involved with creating a gaga pit at Bowden Grandview School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in September.

A Chinook’s Edge School Division official says the Innisfail Kinsmen covered the $2,600 cost while the Wood family who live just west of Bowden installed it during the Aug. 31 weekend.

Although the game’s origins date back several decades, gaga ball seems to have more recently experienced a surge in popularity.

A variant of another classic and more commonly-known game, dodgeball, gaga ball substantially reduces the risk of impact injuries by limiting how the ball is kept in play.
