BOWDEN — Persons crimes in Bowden shot up last summer and early fall, compared to summer 2020, according to RCMP.
In a report delivered to council late last year, Olds RCMP say 27 persons crimes were reported from July 1 to Sept. 30, 2021, well up from the same period in 2020 when only four such crimes were reported.
“This can be attributed to significantly more reports of domestic violence through the summer months, than the year before,” Staff Sgt. Warren Wright wrote in an email.
In fact, there was a 23 per cent rise in total criminal code offences reported in Bowden during that period, from 88 from July 1 to Sept. 30, 2020 to 108 during that same period in 2021.
Property crime stats fell a bit during that period, from 71 in summer/early fall of 2020 to 66 during the same period last year.
Criminal code traffic offences rose by 43 per cent, from 14 to 20. However, provincial traffic offences actually fell by 33 per cent, from 863 to 574.
