RED DEER COUNTY - A trial date has been set for a Bowden-area man and his company for allegedly breaking Alberta Health Services COVID rules.
Ty Northcott and Northcott Rodeo Inc. are now slated to stand trial June 21 in Red Deer Provincial Court.
On May 1-2, 2021, a rodeo was held in Red Deer County near Bowden in defiance of COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time which limited outdoor and indoor gatherings.
Shortly afterward, Ty and Gail Northcott and Northcott Rodeo Inc., were charged with violating Section 73(1) of the Public Health Act for holding the event.
It was alleged that by doing so, they contravened health restrictions which at the time prohibited large public gatherings.
On Oct. 13 last year, at the start of a two-day trial in Red Deer Provincial Court, charges against Gail were dropped. However, charges against Ty Northcott and their company involved in the event went ahead.
