Bulls N' Broncs event a hit in Carstairs

About 400 people attended the three-hour event at the Carstairs rodeo grounds

CARSTAIRS - The Carstairs Rodeo Association’s Beef & Barley - Bulls N’ Broncs roughstock event in town on Saturday was a hit with participants and competitors alike, say organizers.

“It was all good,” said association president Tyler Franke. “The competition was really good and we had a good time doing it. It was the first time we did a rough stock event like this.

“We got a lot of really positive feedback from most of the people who came out. It was a lot of fun.”

Held at the Carstairs rodeo grounds under perfect summer conditions, the event featured bull riding, junior bull riding, steer riding, wild pony racing, free-style bullfighting and ranch bronc riding.

About 400 people attended the three-hour event. All tickets were sold in advance in keeping with COVID precautions.

There was bleacher seating as well as a large area on the east side of the arena for lawn chair seating.

Many of the competitors came from the region, including from Carstairs, Water Valley, Crossfield, Olds, Elkton, Sundre, Cremona and Bowden.

Organizers will be meeting this week to go over the event, he said.

“I could see it happening again in 2022,” he said.

Asked if the event broke even, he said, “We’ll do OK. We will probably come out ahead.”

More than a dozen local sponsors helped make Bull N' Broncs possible.
