CARSTAIRS - The Town of Carstairs' council has approved the 2025 tax rate bylaw, which calls for a slight decrease in the residential mill rate, falling from 5.50 in 2024 to 5.30 this year.
The overall mill rate goes from 8.66 last year to 8.44 in 2025.
The approval came by way of motion at the April 14 council meeting.
The total residential tax levy is $4,880,335, up from $4,366,678 in 2024, on an assessment of $920,821,750.
The non-residential rate is 8.313, unchanged from 8.313 in 2024. The total non-residential levy is $642,380, up from $592,678 in 2024.
The machinery and equipment mill rate is 2025 is 8.313, unchanged from 8.313 in 2024.
The Alberta School Foundation Fund (ASFF) residential requisition rate is 2.41859 on a tax levy of $2,235,332, up from $1,910,779 in 2024.
The non-residential ASFF requisition rate is 3.68419 on a total tax levy of $284,692, up from $255,531 in 2024.
The Mountain View Seniors' Housing tax levy is $347,786, up from $320,858 in 2024. The 2025 mill rate is 0.34722, compared with 0.36899 in 2024.
The 2025 policing tax levy is $304,805, and the Mountain View Regional Waste Commission tax levy is $51,820, with a mill rate of 0.5174.
The town's chief administrative officer, Rick Blair told the Albertan, that council is "happy with how the budget looks and how the tax rate looks. In comparison with our neighbours I think we are happy with how it looks.”
The recently passed operating budget included 2024 assessment results showing the town’s overall assessment last year stood at $1,048,890,000, up from $910,092,000.
Tax notices will be now be going out to ratepayers, he said.
The 2025 operating budget, approved on March 24, calls for municipal expenses of $14,098,265, up from $13,795,582 in 2024.
