CARSTAIRS - A Calgary man charged with attempted murder after a break-in and shooting at the Silver Willow Sporting Club near Carstairs on Feb. 9 will be back in court on Feb. 26 for election and plea, court officials said.
Police officers were called to the club at about 5:10 a.m. for a report of a break and enter in progress.
A short time earlier, a male representative of the club was notified by on-site security system that two suspects were in the business.
When the representative arrived at the scene he was confronted by one of the suspects, said RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney.
“The male suspect then shot at the complainant, who was still in his vehicle, striking the vehicle. The complainant was not injured,” she said.
The accused was arrested near the club after fleeing on foot.
Kyle Nechiporenko, 37, faces charges of attempted murder, discharge of a firearm with with intent, failing to comply with a probation order, possession of a firearm without holding a licence, failing to comply with weapons prohibition order, using a disguise to commit an indictable offence and driving while unauthorized.
He has been remanded in custody pending the Feb. 26 appearance in Didsbury Court of Justice.
Soleil Wenas, 20, a Calgary resident, was also arrested following the Feb. 9 break in at Silver Willow. She faces a charge of possession of a firearm without holding a licence and failing to comply with release conditions.
She has also been ordered detained pending a Feb. 26 appearance for election and plea in Didsbury court.
