CARSTAIRS — The 2021 Remembrance Day ceremony in Carstairs will take place in Memorial Park, located west of 10th Ave. and north of Gough Road.
The outdoor service will get underway at about 10:20 a.m. on Nov. 11 and will include all of the events usually seen during indoor services, says Marty Ratz, past-president of Carstairs Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53 and a town councillor.
The decision to move the service outdoors is in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
Events planned include addresses from dignitaries and Royal Canadian Legion officials, as well as wreath laying and the parade of flags.
The ceremony will also likely include the recitation of the community’s honour roll, which is made up for 10 First World War soldiers, 17 Second World War soldiers, one Korean War soldier, and one Afghanistan war soldier.
The 2021 Remembrance Day ceremony is open to everyone, he said.
Last year’s service was held in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53 Hall, with a maximum of 15 people in attendance due to the pandemic.
